On November 19th, students from all across the UK will march in London to oppose the extortionate tuition fees currently in place and call for free education. The NUS backed this demo after an overwhelming majority of its executive voted to support it, and as an organisation which claims to ‘champion students to shape the future of education and create a better world’, this backing seems like common sense.

However, on the 4th of November, the NUS President, Toni Pearce, withdrew their support for the demo. They pulled out of the demo, which would have been the first national rally backed by them in 2 years, on the basis of a lack of confidence surrounding the safety and accessibility of the event.
