On Wednesday 1st October around 20 people gathered on Parkinson Steps, Leeds University in a show of solidarity with the huge pro-democracy protest movement in Hong Kong. Socialist Students joined the protest with our banners, as well as posters from Socialist Action, the CWI group in Hong Kong.

Last week, thousands of students walked out from universities and schools against attempts by the Chinese regime to wind back promises made about electing Hong Kong’s chief executive through universal suffrage. Instead, the current appointments committee is to be transformed into a nominating committee and is likely to only allow pro-Beijing politicians onto the ballot paper.
