Several heavy downpours of rain didn’t put around 500 people off from joining a protest in Leeds on Sunday 17th August against the recent Israeli assault and ongoing seige of Gaza.
Iain Dalton, Leeds Socialist Party
Protesters marched through the city centre to Briggate where the names of Palestinians killed in Gaza, many of them young, were held in a human chain along the street to symbolise the horrendous loss of life as a result of Israels vicious bombing and ground invasion campaign over the last few weeks.
Socialist Party members ran a stall and participated in the demo. We gave out hundreds of leaflets and our new ‘Stop the Slaughter in Gaza’ badges went down well, but we also spoke to people interested in our campaign for a £10 an hour minimum wage and several people enquired about joining the party.
