Students and staff, members of Unison, GMB and UCU, protested on July 2nd against the proposed closure of nurseries at 3 sites at Leeds City College. With over 70 in attendence, the protest was a huge success attracting coverage from local newspapers and TV.
Iain Dalton, Leeds Socialist Party
The college runs a whole series of FE and HE courses, and the nurseries provide a vital lifeline to student parents to allow them to gain skills and qualification to get back into work. Students and staff had previously held meetings protesting against this attack, which is just the tip of the iceburg – see https://leedssocialistparty.wordpress.com/2014/06/05/students-and-staff-oppose-leeds-city-college-nursery-closures/)
Socialist Party members and other TUSC supporters proudly displayed our banner on the protest, and will mobilise support in the fight against this and further cuts at the college.
