Leeds Metroopolitan University management are currently engaging in a consultation about cutting provision of foreign language courses. This follows cuts from the Higher Education for Funding Council for England, removing half of the funding at the beginning of this academic year and all of it at the start of the next one.

There are plans to stop teaching Farsi, Finnish, Turkish and Hungarian, as well as reduce the classes teaching Russian, Japanese, Polish, Greek, Chinese and Portuguese. This will also threaten the jobs of eleven lecturers.

Leeds Socialist Party and Socialist Students oppose these cuts and offer our full support to staff at Leeds Met in fighting these proposals.
