PCS members outside DVLA Leeds office on a previous strike day

DVLA workers walked out for a third time as part of a national programme of rolling action across the Department for Transport. The action is over a number of issues including the closure of the entire local office network and centralisation of services to Swansea resulting in 1,200 job losses.

The mood of the PCS members I spoke to was grim, yet determined (see video). In particular there was some frustration that despite 79% being opposed to the office closure proposals in the government’s consultation they have pressed on regardless. Leaflets for the September 9th National Shop Stewards Network lobby of the TUC calling for a general strike were taken to distrubute to the rest of the workforce.
